In Loro Town Council, Oyam District, NorthernUganda, Okot Justine Mike stands as a testament to how access to quality agricultural inputs and knowledge can transform livelihoods. Apassionate farmer and now an established agro-inputs dealers, Okot’s journeyfrom subsistence to commercial farming has been one of growth, learning, andempowerment.

“My main source of livelihood is farming. I wasmainly involved in subsistence farming, but now I have graduated to commercialfarming,” he shared. “I started using Agro Supply seeds about six years back, and I’m now also an agro-inputs dealers.”

Like many smallholder farmers in Northern Uganda,Okot once faced challenges of low yields and limited access to reliablemarkets. But working with Agro Supply marked a turning point. “In the past, myyields were about 650kg per acre, but now it is up to 2,500kg per acre,” hesaid proudly. “There is a great positive change in my life because of using theseeds from Agro Supply. I get a lot of money whenever I plant them. But if Iplant other varieties, I get less money.”

With improved yields came new opportunities. Okothas since acquired more farmland and expanded his agro-inputs shop, a businessthat now supplies quality seeds and inputs to fellow farmers in his community.“Working with Agro Supply has revolutionized the way I see agriculture,” headded. “They support farmers to get better market prices for their produce, meaning we don’t have to worry about where to sell our surplus.”

The ripple effects of this transformation extendbeyond Okot’s household. “I also have friends who use Agro Supply seeds, and Ihave witnessed a lot of improvement in their lives too,” he said. “Theirchildren now go to school and are studying in better schools. Last farmingseason, one of them sold maize and bought some bulls for ploughing. With an oxplough, he will spend less on labor and save time.”

From small beginnings, Okot has built a thrivingenterprise rooted in farming and community development. His story is one ofresilience and progress — proof that with the right support, farming can beboth profitable and life-changing.
