As a company, we are often asked aboutour mission, technology, and impact on African agriculture. From curiousfarmers or even from intrigued investors, questions come our way. Because ofthis, we saw the need to point out this comprehensive FAQ.
Agro Supply aims toalleviate poverty among smallholder farmers in Africa through technology whileestablishing a vast network of sustainable and profitable farmers. Serving over28,000 farmers, including 45.2% female farmers, the company has achieved a 150%increase in food production by producing one million tons of climate-resilientcrops. Collaborating with input suppliers, financial institutions, anddevelopmental entities enhances scalability, aiming to lift smallholder farmersout of poverty and promote widespread adoption of sustainable farming practicesacross Africa
At the heart of whatwe do is our commitment to helping African farmers thrive. Agro Supply isdedicated to uplifting smallholder farmers by granting them access to top-notchagricultural inputs and innovative financial solutions. Our distinctive save-to-buylayaway model, conveniently facilitated via USSD code (*284*43#),empowers farmers to save gradually for inputs, thereby avoiding debt andenhancing financial management skills. We supply seeds, fertilizers, and tools, and offer training on best farming practices and climate-smart agriculture.
Byleveraging technology, we equip farmers with the necessary tools and supportthey need to grow more crops, increase their earnings, and better prepare forchallenges like climate change.
Agro supply's primarytarget is to support small-scale farmers, who are crucial to agriculture inAfrica. These farmers usually work on less than 5 hectares of land andencounter challenges such as limited resources, scattered markets, and lack ofinformation. Through tailored assistance and technology, we strive to overcomethese obstacles and help these farmers achieve their full potential.
Agro supply developed a save-to-buylayaway technology that enables farmers to save money in their mobilewallets. This allows them to purchase inputs during the planting season withoutrelying on credit, eliminating concerns about interest rates
Our model ensures aseamless and quick process for farmers using our USSD short code (*284*43#), to save gradually for agriculturalinputs and services. Farmers create an account, make micro-payments via scratchcard or mobile money, accumulate the required amount, and once completed, initiate a withdrawal through our layaway system for delivery of inputs uponapproval.
We stand out because we:
Weinnovate by conducting desk research and collaborating with farmers andpartners. Our agricultural research aims to optimize investments and enhancelivelihoods, moving us closer to maximizing farmers' profits.
We launchall innovations and climate-resilient inputs at our research demo field. Westart with prototypes and pilot tests involving 20-50 farmers from diversedemographics. If successful, we expand the trial to over 200 farmers to measureimpact and return on investment. Once proven effective, we develop trainingmanuals and scaling strategies for the innovation.
Successfulfarmer trials lead to product refinement and integration into Agro Supply'sline. We train staff and agents on best practices and gather ongoing feedbackthrough our toll-free line and agents, which informs future product iterations.
Besides the clearbenefits of growing more crops, earning more money, and getting the suppliesthey need, our farmers also have:
